A Ring without Rival, the 150-Carat All-Diamond Ring April 9, 2012

Master craftsmen at Shawish Jewelry, a Switzerland based luxury jewelry store, have emerged from their workshop to reveal a breathtaking 150-carat masterpiece.  150-Carat All Diamond Ring by Shawish Jewelry

Mr. Shawesh and his colleagues spent a year carving the 150-carat diamond ring out of a single large diamond.   Cutting edge laser technology (no pun intended) was used in conjunction with traditional diamond cutting and polishing techniques to achieve the final design of the ring.   The ring is made entirely from diamond and does not contain any precious metals or gemstones.  Mr. Shawesh has copyrighted what he claims to be the world’s first all-diamond ring so others will not be tempted to replicate the feat.  According to their website, “the most important aspect is preserving the integrity of the diamond and of course the most difficult phase is precision cutting an entire stone into a ring”.  The company had to perform several tests before cutting a precise circle directly into the diamond with special laser equipment.

The ring is expected to sell for $70 million!  WOW!  Consider their marketing tagline when pondering the exorbitant cost; “There are more than a billion years in a diamond, only now this eternity is in your hands”.   I just hope they have the correct finger size for the buyer!

Duck Duck Go…ose… Google, You Are Not It!! April 4, 2012

Google has crappy search results. The same company comes up time after time for many different search terms. Instead of showing a variety of results, Google just shows the “name brands”. For example, if I search for an outdoor wicker candle holder (which I really did this morning), I get target, amazon and overstock… and the results show wicker furniture and metal candleholders… ugh!! When I do the same search on a new search engine called Duck Duck Go I actually get results from places that sell outdoor wicker candle holders! These are not
big name stores but they actually have exactly what I am looking for. So I can spend 30 minutes rummaging through all the spammy results on Google to find what I am looking for or two minutes on Duck Duck Go and be ordering what I want… I choose Duck Duck Go!

In addition when I do a search on Google, I know Big Brother is watching me and selling me out to the highest bidder. I don’t like being spied on and then marketed to based on my search terms. If I am doing a research project on the world’s largest diamonds, do I really need to see ads for DeBeers six months later every time I log onto my e-mail account??

Duck Duck Go has an excellent privacy policy…they don’t spy.  Period.

Easy to see why I am loving this new little ducky on the search scene.

If you’re hoping to get engaged soon and starting to shop for engagement rings, Hollywood might be a great place to start. It seems like everyone in Hollywood is getting engaged. Every day there is a new engagement announcement from some hot celebrity.

But who do you trust when it comes to choosing your engagement ring? Consider the celebrities that you admire most. Think about their personality, lifestyle and fashion sense. If you are drawn to certain celebrities, check out their engagement rings to see if they match your tastes.Katherine Heigl Engagement Ring

There does seem to be a trend growing among celebrities to have engagement rings that are easier to wear. That does not mean people like Sienna Miller and Halle Berry are compromising on the size of their diamond, it just means they are choosing platinum bands to secure their mountings in place.

When it comes to choosing your cut, celebrities usually cover them all. Recently, celebrities such as Ali Larter and Khloe Kardashian have opted for traditional princess- and emerald –cut diamonds. These classic shapes are a popular choice among many brides-to-be because the shape is timeless and flattering.

So how are you supposed to afford a celebrity-inspired engagement ring on a non-celebrity budget? Believe it or not, you may not have to sacrifice your dream ring. You can find a variety of affordable platinum diamond engagement rings online.

By studying the 4 Cs and understanding where you can afford to give and take when it comes to choosing your diamond, you may still be able to have the celebrity engagement ring of your dreams.

Shop the entire collection of engagement rings online at Danforth Diamond and save even more on this important purchase.

Sorry Boys, Snooki is Officially off the Market March 13, 2012

Danforth Diamond is all about celebrating love and romance, and what is more romantic than the union of a Guido and Guidette?

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi recently announced that not only is she pregnant, but she is also engaged to her boyfriend of one and half years, Jionni LaValle. The couple, infamous for their roles on Jersey Shore, is about to have an entirely new set of priorities. The duo will replace their beer bottles for baby bottles and their nightly parties for a once-in-a-lifetime wedding reception.Snooki's Engagement Ring

What kind of engagement ring is Snooki showing off? For someone with Snooki’s larger-than-life personality, it only made sense that LaValle chose a larger-than-life diamond to match. While the duo has made some poor decisions in the past, this might be one they actually got right.

As the engagement ring experts, we know how to choose the right ring. When choosing an engagement ring, it’s all about personality. Choosing a ring to fit with your lifestyle, personality and tastes is more important than anything else. You could purchase the world’s largest diamond, but if the cut, shape or style is wrong, you’re doomed.

Snooki needed a huge engagement ring. She loves attention and lives an over-the-top lifestyle. A traditional round cut diamond wouldn’t have been enough for her. She needed a jaw-dropping square-cut center diamond with brilliantly flawless side stones; and that’s exactly what it looks like she got.

But when it comes to choosing your engagement ring (your boyfriend is going to need some help) consider your personality. If you are active, a large diamond might not be a practical choice for you. If your tastes are sophisticated, you might want to consider a round, princess or pear shaped diamond.

When it comes to shopping for engagement rings, if you follow your heart it’s hard to go wrong. Find the ring that fits you and not the most recent trends or celebrity engagement.

The Princess and The Diamond Tiara! August 10, 2011

Posted by Jill Renee in : Engagement Rings , 2comments

Tiaras are the traditional symbol of royalty that we have ALL, at one point or another, dreamed of placing upon our head!   Many of us use our wedding day to live out this dream and dress our veil with diamonds and gems galore.Princess Katherine's TIARA

While each and every woman looks like princesses on the day of her wedding, Princess Katherine played her role as a princess particularly well and wore a beautiful sparkling tiara on her wedding day.  Princess Charlene, on the other hand, turned heads when she ditched the century old tradition and went with an updated look!

For her royal wedding, Kate Middleton dazzled in a 1936 Cartier diamond tiara loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth II.  She wore the crown under her veil with her hair pulled up half way while she let the rest fall to her shoulders in beautiful curls.  The tiara was purchased in 1936 by King George VI for his Dutchess (the Queen Mother).  In turn, Queen Elizabeth II received the tiara from her mother on her 18th birthday.

Princess Charlene's Tiara

However, I have to give it up for Charlene Wittstock who successfully and elegantly updated this century old traditional tiara! She adorned her look with a diamond hair piece created by Lorenz Baumer that contained eleven pear-shaped diamonds. This elegant piece rested on top of her low bun and peeped out from behind her ears and blonde hair.  Her wedding gown featured a delicate embroidery and Swarovski crystals.

Bottom line, BOTH princesses looked beautiful on their wedding day!

JP or Ben, Who Will Get the Final Rose? August 1, 2011

Posted by Jill Renee in : Engagement Rings , 2comments

Ashley Hebert, the Bachelorette of Season 7, has made it to her final two guys.  Fans and viewers everywhere will get to see whether it is JP Rosebaum or Ben Flajinik that wins her heart.  Here at Danforth Diamond, we are particularly excited to see the ring! It is rumored that Ashley will receive the biggest rock in Bachelorette history, a 4 carat diamond ring!

bachelorette-ashleyAll season Ashley has had a special connection with both JP and Ben.  However, this season has not been all grins and kisses.  Ashley dealt with the disappointment caused by a participant who came on the show as a game and was never really interested in her.  She said goodbye to the one she considered “her perfect guy” but lacked physical connection.  She also had potential suitor make it to the final three and then walk away without an explanation.

As for the final two bachelors, Ashley has a true connection with both JP and Ben.  She feels Ben is a fun and charming guy.  She says that everything about him screams sexy.  Regarding JP, she states that she loves the way he makes her feel and that the rest of the world does not matter when they are together.  She also considers him extremely gorgeous and has the “best kisses.”

The Final Two!There are people who think she will pick Ben and there are people who think she will pick JP.  I personally think that she will pick JP! In my opinion, they seem to have a stronger physical and emotional connection.  After watching last night’s “Before the Final Rose” episode, my opinion was solidified when JP said that he could not wait until everything was out in the open and they could spend their lives together.

It will be interesting to see the finale tonight when Ashley’s family gets to meet the final two men.  Rumor says that Ashley’s sister will advise against JP and that Ashley even had a better connection with Brad Womack (The Bachelor from last season who sent Ashley home after there were only three women left).  Other rumors suggest that the man who is not chosen tonight is totally blindsided and actually shows his angry side.

Every fan of this season’s Bachelorette has his or her own guess of the winner.  Watch tonight to see the ring and find out if your guess was correct!

Either way Ashley seemed legitimately happy in last night’s interview on “Before the Final Rose.”  Everybody is ready to watch and hope that Ashley’s gets her fairytale ending.  Tune into tonight to ABC at 8:00pm Eastern Standing Time.
