A Ring without Rival, the 150-Carat All-Diamond Ring April 9, 2012
Posted by Jill Renee in : Engagement Rings , add a commentMaster craftsmen at Shawish Jewelry, a Switzerland based luxury jewelry store, have emerged from their workshop to reveal a breathtaking 150-carat masterpiece.
Mr. Shawesh and his colleagues spent a year carving the 150-carat diamond ring out of a single large diamond. Cutting edge laser technology (no pun intended) was used in conjunction with traditional diamond cutting and polishing techniques to achieve the final design of the ring. The ring is made entirely from diamond and does not contain any precious metals or gemstones. Mr. Shawesh has copyrighted what he claims to be the world’s first all-diamond ring so others will not be tempted to replicate the feat. According to their website, “the most important aspect is preserving the integrity of the diamond and of course the most difficult phase is precision cutting an entire stone into a ring”. The company had to perform several tests before cutting a precise circle directly into the diamond with special laser equipment.
The ring is expected to sell for $70 million! WOW! Consider their marketing tagline when pondering the exorbitant cost; “There are more than a billion years in a diamond, only now this eternity is in your hands”. I just hope they have the correct finger size for the buyer!
Duck Duck Go…ose… Google, You Are Not It!! April 4, 2012
Posted by Jill Renee in : Engagement Rings , add a commentGoogle has crappy search results. The same company comes up time after time for many different search terms. Instead of showing a variety of results, Google just shows the “name brands”. For example, if I search for an outdoor wicker candle holder (which I really did this morning), I get target, amazon and overstock… and the results show wicker furniture and metal candleholders… ugh!! When I do the same search on a new search engine called Duck Duck Go I actually get results from places that sell outdoor wicker candle holders! These are not
big name stores but they actually have exactly what I am looking for. So I can spend 30 minutes rummaging through all the spammy results on Google to find what I am looking for or two minutes on Duck Duck Go and be ordering what I want… I choose Duck Duck Go!
In addition when I do a search on Google, I know Big Brother is watching me and selling me out to the highest bidder. I don’t like being spied on and then marketed to based on my search terms. If I am doing a research project on the world’s largest diamonds, do I really need to see ads for DeBeers six months later every time I log onto my e-mail account??
Duck Duck Go has an excellent privacy policy…they don’t spy. Period.
Easy to see why I am loving this new little ducky on the search scene.
