They’re Your Teacher, Coach, and Friend… They’re Your Boss October 16, 2012
Posted by Jill Renee in : Engagement Rings , trackbackToday we celebrate National Boss’ Day. National Boss’ Day began in 1958 and is usually celebrated by presenting your boss with a small gift or greeting card. It is kind of similar to a birthday except that there is not a Happy Boss’ Day song. It is customary to treat your boss with extreme kindness on this day. This special day is celebrated every year on October 16th.
National Boss’ Day was begun in 1958 by Patricia Bays Harowski. She was an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Illinois. She registered the holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and four years later, Governor Otto Kerner backed her registration and officially proclaimed the day. The date of October 16th was chosen because it was her father’s birthday, who also happened to be her boss. This holiday has become an international celebration and is now observed in countries such as England, Australia, and South Africa.
Even though Boss’ Day began in 1958, Hallmark did not produce the first card until 1979. Now there are cards from sweet, loving, to funny. “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention. Thanks for helping me always. Happy Boss’ Day.”
Happy Boss’ Day to everybody out there. I hope you have a wonderful day.
