Trick or Treat October 29, 2012

Trick or Treat is a customary phrase used on Halloween in many countries.  It is used by children in costume traveling from house to house asking for treats.  The most popular treat is candy.  The “trick” is a threat to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.  This has been a customary Halloween tradition in North American since at least the early 1950s.  Some homeowners go all out by decorating with fake spider webs, carved pumpkins, witches, and more.  Others will either only have candy to give out or just leave a bowl of candy on the porch.

Danforth has decided to participate in the TREAT part of trick-or-treating this year and is giving away a free pair of earrings.  The earrings are sterling silver dangle disco balls set with cubic zirconia.  They are perfect for all of your Christmas and New Year’s parties this year.  Like Danforth on Facebook and tune in to our Facebook page on Halloween morning for the giveaway instructions.

Happy Halloween and have a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience this year.

We Found Love in a Hopeless Place – A Bachelor Pad Proposal September 11, 2012

For all of you Bachelor and Bachelorette fans, there was a shocking proposal last night on the finale of Bachelor Pad, Season 3.  Tony Pieper popped the big question last night to Blakeley Shea.  The couple announced on live television that they were moving in together and after that Tony shocked everybody with a proposal.

Tony, from Emily’s season of the Bachelorette and Blakeley, from Ben’s season of the Bachelor, met on Bachelor Pad Season 3.  They were not paired together at the beginning of the show but after drama and people getting voted off, the couple found each other.  They hit it off fast and their first overnight date was where the magic really sparked.  The couple announced right before the surprise engagement that Blakeley would be moving to Portland, Oregon to move in with Tony.  Tony, a single father, popped the question by stating that she was the perfect addition to his family and he could not imagine spending his life without her.  Blakeley was shocked but of course she said yes.

Tony produced a black Neil Lane box out of his pocket and presented Blakeley with a lovely halo ring.  Neil Lane is the designer who always does the ring for The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

All of the contestants admit to coming to Bachelor Pad for the money, and if love happens than it happens.  Blakely and Tony seemed like an unlikely couple at the beginning but it just goes to prove that love can be found when you least expect it.

June’s Jewels June 14, 2012

Who comes with summer to this earth,
And owes to June her hour of birth,
With ring of agate on her hand
Can health, wealth, and long life command.

There are three gemstones that are associated with births in the month of June. Those stones consist of Pearl, Alexandrite, and Moonstone. The modern birthstone is Pearl or Moonstone, the traditional birthstone is Alexandrite, and the Mystical birthstone is Moonstone.

Pearls were one of the favorite gem materials of the Roman Empire. They are unique because they are the only gems that come from a living sea creature and need no faceting or polishing to reveal their natural beauty. The first successful culturing of round saltwater pearls began in the early 1900s, and since the 1920s, cultured pearls have almost completely replaced natural pearls in the market.

Alexandrite is a beautiful shade of green in daylight and fluorescent light. However, it does change color to a purplish red in incandescent light. It was discovered first in Russia in 1831 and some jewelers stock synthetic versions due to its rarity.

Moonstone was given its name by the Roman natural historian Pliny. He wrote that moonstone’s appearance altered with the phases of the moon. Moonstones show a floating play of light. This is called adularescence and it sometimes shows either a star or cat’s eye. This gemstone occurs in many igneous and metamorphic rocks and comes in a variety of colors such as green, blue, peach, and champagne.

From Pearl, to Alexandrite, to Moonstone; whichever you choose for your birthstone, Danforth Diamond wishes all of our June babies a Happy Birthday!Alexandrites and Pearls

Holidays are a Perfect Time to Get Engaged! December 1, 2010

The holidays are a perfect time for couples to get engaged. Usually, the holiday season brings visits from far away relatives and friends and they present a great opportunity to share the happiness of being newly engaged and to show off the engagement ring!

This season some celebrity couples have jumped on the holiday engagement bandwagon. Prince William and Kate Middleton kicked off the season followed by Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson. Much has been made about the Jessica and Nick engagements following one another so closely but I say so what. Let’s all try and play nice and wish them both some happiness. Poor Jessica has been under the microscope with every relationship she has had since the break up with Nick.  If she has found some happiness with Eric, that is great news!  I just can’t stand these nasty bloggers who seem to enjoy watching other people suffer. By the way how do they know who paid for the engagement ring and why do they care?

The holidays are supposed to be about good will so celebrating a happy occasion like getting engaged is a perfect fit. If you are planning on getting engaged this holiday season be sure to leave plenty of time to order the engagement ring and eliminate any stress involved with such an important purchase. Be sure to read up on choosing the right engagement ring settings and picking a perfect diamond.  Once you have done all your homework pick a good time to pop the question and have some fun!

Danforth Diamond Offers Eco-friendly Jewelry Made from Recycled Gold, Platinum & Other Metals September 16, 2008

Harmony Recycled Precious Metals used to manufacture green engagement jewelry – everything from recycled platinum engagement rings to recycled palladium wedding bands for women & men.

eco-ring3.jpgMidlothian, VA  September 16, 2008 — The extensive collection of engagement rings and wedding rings offered by Danforth Diamond are now made from 100% recycled precious metals. Danforth Diamond partnered with jewelry manufacturer, Hoover & Strong, an industry leader in eco-friendly jewelry manufacturing and refining, to provide a green jewelry option to the marketplace.

The timing of those requests was uncanny and they confirmed a need for eco-friendly jewelry that wasn’t being met

As jewelers seek ways to be more eco-friendly and find alternatives to mining, recycling precious metals has become increasingly popular. With the slogan “Our jewelry is refined – not mined” Danforth Diamond emphasizes that while mining displaces earth and upsets the ecosystem of the area being mined, refining precious metals uses far fewer resources and has a lesser impact on the environment. “There is no difference between recycled metal and newly mined metal,” states Jill Renee, president of Danforth Diamond. “Both offer the same quality, durability, and shine. I believe this isn’t a trend; it’s the new way of doing business. There is no reason why all jewelry can’t be made from recycled material.”

Harmony Recycled Precious Metals takes unwanted or damaged jewelry, shavings and metal lost during the jewelry manufacture and crafting processes, and scrap precious metals from industrial uses and recycles them. The metals are melted down to separate them – the precious metals are separated from alloys that were added to provide strength or shine – and then all are reused in the manufacturing of new “green” jewelry pieces or other items.

Approximately 90% of the products on the danforthdiamond.com site carry the Harmony Recycled Precious Metals designation.

Prompting their search for a jewelry manufacturer who uses recycled metals, Danforth received several emails from customers and comments on the Danforth Diamond Blog asking about recycled metal jewelry options. “The timing of those requests was uncanny and they confirmed a need for eco-friendly jewelry that wasn’t being met,” Jill Renee said.

The use of Harmony Recycled Precious Metals reiterates Danforth Diamond’s commitment to people- and earth-friendly jewelry. They are a member of StopBloodDiamonds.org and are in compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme which certifies the origin of diamonds to make certain they are ethically sourced and conflict free.

Jill Renee added, “Danforth Diamond’s commitment to our customers is to provide engagement jewelry pieces that are as socially and environmentally responsible as they are beautiful.”
