June’s Jewels June 14, 2012

Who comes with summer to this earth,
And owes to June her hour of birth,
With ring of agate on her hand
Can health, wealth, and long life command.

There are three gemstones that are associated with births in the month of June. Those stones consist of Pearl, Alexandrite, and Moonstone. The modern birthstone is Pearl or Moonstone, the traditional birthstone is Alexandrite, and the Mystical birthstone is Moonstone.

Pearls were one of the favorite gem materials of the Roman Empire. They are unique because they are the only gems that come from a living sea creature and need no faceting or polishing to reveal their natural beauty. The first successful culturing of round saltwater pearls began in the early 1900s, and since the 1920s, cultured pearls have almost completely replaced natural pearls in the market.

Alexandrite is a beautiful shade of green in daylight and fluorescent light. However, it does change color to a purplish red in incandescent light. It was discovered first in Russia in 1831 and some jewelers stock synthetic versions due to its rarity.

Moonstone was given its name by the Roman natural historian Pliny. He wrote that moonstone’s appearance altered with the phases of the moon. Moonstones show a floating play of light. This is called adularescence and it sometimes shows either a star or cat’s eye. This gemstone occurs in many igneous and metamorphic rocks and comes in a variety of colors such as green, blue, peach, and champagne.

From Pearl, to Alexandrite, to Moonstone; whichever you choose for your birthstone, Danforth Diamond wishes all of our June babies a Happy Birthday!Alexandrites and Pearls

Bachelorette Emily Maynard – Third Time’s a Charm! May 30, 2012

America fell in love with Emily during Season 15 of the Bachelor starring Brad Womack.  Emily’s story is very touching and involved her losing her first true love in a plane crash and ending up as a single mom.   Emily fell in love for a second time on Season 15 of the Bachelor and accepted Brad’s proposal at the end of the show.  The relationship didn’t last and now Emily is back hoping  for another opportunity to find love.

Will the third time be the charm for this beautiful, sweet, single mom?  Will she finally find a man to spend the rest of her life with and a father for her daughter, Ricki?  She is definitely taking her opportunity as Bachelorette seriously which she proved by sending two guys home on episode 3 before the final rose ceremony.Emily Maynard

Of the remaining bachelors, who do you think will be standing with Emily at the end?  Will it be Arie, the race car driver who was afraid Emily would not give him a chance because he has the same profession as her first love or Tony, the loveable single dad who has already caught her attention?  Or will one of the other men be getting down on one knee at the end of the season?

I think that Arie and Jeff will be here for awhile.  They both already seem to have a great connection with Emily.  I also believe that Tony will either be leaving this week or here for the long run.  Emily has already shown that she will not keep any contestant away from his child longer than necessary; so if Tony stays than there is obviously something there.

The season has just started and there has already been a smashing of an ostrich egg, grilling by the best friends, a play date with kids, and a whole lot of drama and surprise decisions.  Stay tuned for the rest of the season of the Bachelorette with Emily Maynard and see if she finds true love once again.

Spring is here and a new fashion trend is in the air!  Pink gold has hit the market with astounding success.  Danforth Diamond has worked with pink gold for years and they are thrilled to see its popularity rise.Pink Gold Ring from Danforth Diamond

The opulent island of Hvar in Croatia is using pink gold in creative ways.  On June 2nd the island is hosting a VIP wine tasting event where Dom Perignon will be served from a very rare 6-litre Rose Gold bottle.  Only 35 of these luxury bottles are produced in a year.  This event along with several celebrity visits has helped Hvar earn the title of the most exclusive destination in the Adriatic.

Tiffany & Co. has also helped the pink or rose gold trend to explode with the introduction of their new line of Rubedo.  Rubedo has lovely pink hue similar to that of a rose gold.

We think that pink gold gives traditional fine jewelry the pop that it needed and the trend is here to stay. Check out all of Danforth Diamond pink gold jewelry today!

A Ring without Rival, the 150-Carat All-Diamond Ring April 9, 2012

Master craftsmen at Shawish Jewelry, a Switzerland based luxury jewelry store, have emerged from their workshop to reveal a breathtaking 150-carat masterpiece.  150-Carat All Diamond Ring by Shawish Jewelry

Mr. Shawesh and his colleagues spent a year carving the 150-carat diamond ring out of a single large diamond.   Cutting edge laser technology (no pun intended) was used in conjunction with traditional diamond cutting and polishing techniques to achieve the final design of the ring.   The ring is made entirely from diamond and does not contain any precious metals or gemstones.  Mr. Shawesh has copyrighted what he claims to be the world’s first all-diamond ring so others will not be tempted to replicate the feat.  According to their website, “the most important aspect is preserving the integrity of the diamond and of course the most difficult phase is precision cutting an entire stone into a ring”.  The company had to perform several tests before cutting a precise circle directly into the diamond with special laser equipment.

The ring is expected to sell for $70 million!  WOW!  Consider their marketing tagline when pondering the exorbitant cost; “There are more than a billion years in a diamond, only now this eternity is in your hands”.   I just hope they have the correct finger size for the buyer!

Duck Duck Go…ose… Google, You Are Not It!! April 4, 2012

Posted by Jill Renee in : Engagement Rings , add a comment

Google has crappy search results. The same company comes up time after time for many different search terms. Instead of showing a variety of results, Google just shows the “name brands”. For example, if I search for an outdoor wicker candle holder (which I really did this morning), I get target, amazon and overstock… and the results show wicker furniture and metal candleholders… ugh!! When I do the same search on a new search engine called Duck Duck Go I actually get results from places that sell outdoor wicker candle holders! These are not
big name stores but they actually have exactly what I am looking for. So I can spend 30 minutes rummaging through all the spammy results on Google to find what I am looking for or two minutes on Duck Duck Go and be ordering what I want… I choose Duck Duck Go!

In addition when I do a search on Google, I know Big Brother is watching me and selling me out to the highest bidder. I don’t like being spied on and then marketed to based on my search terms. If I am doing a research project on the world’s largest diamonds, do I really need to see ads for DeBeers six months later every time I log onto my e-mail account??

Duck Duck Go has an excellent privacy policy…they don’t spy.  Period.

Easy to see why I am loving this new little ducky on the search scene.

Hot, Hollywood Engagement Ring Trends March 27, 2012

If you’re hoping to get engaged soon and starting to shop for engagement rings, Hollywood might be a great place to start. It seems like everyone in Hollywood is getting engaged. Every day there is a new engagement announcement from some hot celebrity.

But who do you trust when it comes to choosing your engagement ring? Consider the celebrities that you admire most. Think about their personality, lifestyle and fashion sense. If you are drawn to certain celebrities, check out their engagement rings to see if they match your tastes.Katherine Heigl Engagement Ring

There does seem to be a trend growing among celebrities to have engagement rings that are easier to wear. That does not mean people like Sienna Miller and Halle Berry are compromising on the size of their diamond, it just means they are choosing platinum bands to secure their mountings in place.

When it comes to choosing your cut, celebrities usually cover them all. Recently, celebrities such as Ali Larter and Khloe Kardashian have opted for traditional princess- and emerald –cut diamonds. These classic shapes are a popular choice among many brides-to-be because the shape is timeless and flattering.

So how are you supposed to afford a celebrity-inspired engagement ring on a non-celebrity budget? Believe it or not, you may not have to sacrifice your dream ring. You can find a variety of affordable platinum diamond engagement rings online.

By studying the 4 Cs and understanding where you can afford to give and take when it comes to choosing your diamond, you may still be able to have the celebrity engagement ring of your dreams.

Shop the entire collection of engagement rings online at Danforth Diamond and save even more on this important purchase.

Sorry Boys, Snooki is Officially off the Market March 13, 2012

Posted by Jill Renee in : Engagement Rings , add a comment

Danforth Diamond is all about celebrating love and romance, and what is more romantic than the union of a Guido and Guidette?

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi recently announced that not only is she pregnant, but she is also engaged to her boyfriend of one and half years, Jionni LaValle. The couple, infamous for their roles on Jersey Shore, is about to have an entirely new set of priorities. The duo will replace their beer bottles for baby bottles and their nightly parties for a once-in-a-lifetime wedding reception.Snooki's Engagement Ring

What kind of engagement ring is Snooki showing off? For someone with Snooki’s larger-than-life personality, it only made sense that LaValle chose a larger-than-life diamond to match. While the duo has made some poor decisions in the past, this might be one they actually got right.

As the engagement ring experts, we know how to choose the right ring. When choosing an engagement ring, it’s all about personality. Choosing a ring to fit with your lifestyle, personality and tastes is more important than anything else. You could purchase the world’s largest diamond, but if the cut, shape or style is wrong, you’re doomed.

Snooki needed a huge engagement ring. She loves attention and lives an over-the-top lifestyle. A traditional round cut diamond wouldn’t have been enough for her. She needed a jaw-dropping square-cut center diamond with brilliantly flawless side stones; and that’s exactly what it looks like she got.

But when it comes to choosing your engagement ring (your boyfriend is going to need some help) consider your personality. If you are active, a large diamond might not be a practical choice for you. If your tastes are sophisticated, you might want to consider a round, princess or pear shaped diamond.

When it comes to shopping for engagement rings, if you follow your heart it’s hard to go wrong. Find the ring that fits you and not the most recent trends or celebrity engagement.
